(Ret.) SGM Dewey Lee. Blake Jr. has distinguished himself with exceptionally meritorious service over more than a 30-year career, culminating as Sergeant Major for the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development, and Engineering Center (ARDEC) from 2010 to 2014. Throughout this period, SGM Blake consistently provided inspired leadership while demonstrating extraordinary organizational skills that assisted ARDEC and its major subordinate directorates in mission accomplishment. As the Senior Enlisted Advisor and Infantryman within ARDEC, he provided expert user guidance and consultation for ARDEC engineers, essential to developing explosives and armaments supporting both full material release as well as urgent fielding directly into Theater supporting Joint warfighters engaged in combat operations. SGM Blake provided input to Rapid Force Initiatives such as the Ammunition Pack System for small dismounted teams and advocated for infantry interests from the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, ensuring Soldier requirements were well-understood by ARDEC engineers and ASAALT project managers developing material solutions to meet their Lethality needs.
Throughout his tenure at Headquarters ARDEC, SGM Blake's unique ability to build a cohesive and effective atmosphere of teamwork and goodwill and his goal-oriented philosophy were key to ensuring effective collaboration between military acquisition professionals and ARDEC engineers and scientists to produce nothing less than top results. Accordingly, recognizing the value of Soldier-Engineer interaction to rapidly transition Soldier & material solution, SGM Blake understood you must coordinated visits from your most recently deployed Soldiers to share their experiences with research scientists in order to facilitate expedited support to Warfighters.
In addition to his exemplary service as ARDEC Sergeant Major, SGM Blake on several occasions performed the duties of the Garrison CSM, effortlessly supporting both organizations' mission requirements simultaneously. SGM Blake's extraordinary accomplishments as the U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Center Senior Enlisted Advisor have demonstrated an unmatched level of personal dedication and commitment. His exceptional expertise in event planning and logistical operations and genuine care, concern, and respect for his military and civilian workforce have had a unique and profound impact on the command and its personnel. In a subsequent deployment to Iraq, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his leadership actions while under indirect and small arms fire from enemy forces.
Furthermore, SGM Blake was recently recognized with the Order of Saint Maurice Medal (CENTURION) for distinguished contribution to and loyal support of the Infantry, demonstrating gallant devotion to the principle of selfless service embodied by the American Infantryman.
Most recently, SGM Blake was awarded on 20 September 2016 from The State of New Jersey Senate and General Assembly Citation Commendations and praise, whose sacrifice and bravery in combat has earned him the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal, New Jersey Highest military award, in addition awarded, The State of New Jersey office of the Governor letter of appreciation from Governor Chris Christie and The Meritorious Service Medal from Brigadier General, Michael L. Cunniff.
Finally, SGM Blake's devotion, leadership, integrity, and competence have made an immeasurable contribution to both Army Materiel Command and the United States Army. He willingly sacrificed himself for the good of both Soldiers and the organization. The legacy of his service and devotion to duty will be felt within Army Materiel Command for years to come.
